Cat Sneaks Into A Zoo And Becomes Friends With A Lynx

Friendships grow the same way regardless of what kind of animal you are. This pair of buddies in St. Petersburg’s Zoo are live proof: a European lynx and a typical Russian cat have become friends.

A homeless cat snuck into the St. Petersburg’s Zoo in Russia. She was hungry and alone and was lucky enough to stumble upon some much-needed food and water. The only catch was that the food and the water belonged to a much larger European lynx. It turns out, the cat got much more than it initially bargained for, with a new best friend.

Most animals would be sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ, but not this brave kitty! While her goal was just to sᴛᴇᴀʟ some extra scraps of food, she got much more than that…

Recognizing a familiar kitty face, the lynx took a liking to the stray. Linda, the name of the friendly lynx, gave her a little lick as a welcome. It didn’t take long for Linda the lynx to grow attached to her new cat buddy.

Lynxes are territorial. They don’t really like sharing. In fact, they prefer their own company. So when Linda the lynx let the wandering kitten into her enclosure and shared her food, everyone was sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ. Maybe it was too early for Linda to be left alone, and was desperate for a companion. Feline-focused entertainment website LoveMeow noted that, “it seems as if the cat needs the lynx as much as she needs her”.

When it became clear that Linda and her guest had become good friends, Leningrad decided to adopt the cat and named it Dusja. The two grew together, and remain to be good friends today. They’ve been friends for over 12 years now, since Dusja wandered into Linda’s enclosure in 2008. What can we say, friendship is a wonderfully mysterious thing! Once you know, you know.
