Aʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ Dog ‘Doing Well’ After Being Tied to Hydrant Next To Supply Backpack

It’s always ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ when someone abandons their pet. Even if you can no longer care for your pet, it’s your responsibility to properly surrender it to a shelter or find them a new home. But one ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ viral photo shows an Aʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ little dog left tied to a fire hydrant by her former owner. Thankfully, the dog is now in safe hands.

The pet, a tan mixed-breed, whose name is “Baby Girl”, was discovered sitting patiently alongside a backpack filled with toys and treats, with a note attached detailing the reason for her ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴍᴇɴᴛ. A woman, from the Green Bay area in Wisconsin, US, said she found the pup and sat with her for an hour trying to keep her warm.

“Waiting for someone to come back but no one did. Took her to the humane society in Green Bay. I did my best everyone. Trust me, it ʙʀᴇᴀᴋs my ʜᴇᴀʀᴛ too,” she posted online with the emotional image of Baby Girl.

Speaking out anonymously following the community’s response, Baby Girl’s owner detailed her ᴅɪʀᴇ circumstances and why she decided to find her beloved pet a new home. She told ABC 2 her letter explained she “couldn’t take care of her anymore”, adding it was “the hardest thing [she’s] ever had to do”.

The woman said she’s currently living on the streets while also going through ᴄʜᴇᴍᴏᴛʜᴇʀᴀᴘʏ. Because of this, it’s impossible to properly care for the dog. The owner is hoping people will understand she tried to do the right thing. “I hope she finds a fantastic family. She deserves it. Just forgive me and bless Baby Girl. Make sure she’s ok,” she said.

The dog was then taken to the Green Bay campus of the Wisconsin Humane Society. At last report, Baby Girl remains under their attentive care and is currently serving a mandatory “stray hold” period at the shelter. Poor Baby Girl — we’re sure she was so ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ and ᴄᴏɴꜰᴜsᴇᴅ after being left alone like that. But still, it’s apparent that the owners couldn’t care for her anymore, and everything worked out okay in the end. We hope Baby Girl is doing well and finds a better home situation soon.
