Girl Takes Her Dʏɪɴɢ Dog On One Last Car Ride, Dog’s Face Makes Family Tear Up

A photo showing ‘an old dog’s last ride’ has tugged on the heartstrings of thousands of social media users. Libra, an elderly pooch from Florida, featured in a photo taken shortly before she ᴅɪᴇᴅ back in 2013 that was recently posted on Reddit by one of her owners using the username ewhippieyoustink2. The photo shows the 15-year-old dog lifting her head just to the edge of a lowered window inside a car, seemingly taking in the fresh air with her eyes closed.

Libra the Pit Bull mix was just a little sweet puppy when she was brought to the Kramer household. The cute pooch soon created a special bond with the family’s daughter, April, who was just 8 back then. As time goes by, Libra also became best friends with her sweet kitten sibling, Maxwell.

Over the years, April grew up and Libra turned into a strong source of support for her. But after being by her sister’s side for 15 cheerful years, senior Libra’s health started to have some problems. Her health problems began with some ᴠɪᴏʟᴇɴᴛ sᴇɪᴢᴜʀᴇs, which then led to the discovery of ᴄᴀɴᴄᴇʀᴏᴜs ᴘᴜʟᴍᴏɴᴀʀʏ ᴛᴜᴍᴏʀs. After several vet visits, the family knew that Libra was in ᴘᴀɪɴ and didn’t have much time left.

For the Kramers, Libra in their eyes had always been a gentle girl, and they didn’t want her to sᴜꜰꜰᴇʀ. As the sɪᴄᴋ dog’s bladder failed quickly and caused her unbearable sᴜꜰꜰᴇʀing. So, the family eventually made the hard decision to end her life.

In order to make Libra feel the most comfortable in the last days of her life, April took her by car because that was what she liked. On her last car ride to the vet, April decided to roll down the window and let Libra enjoy her favorite experience. For the next 30 minutes, the poor dog looked at peace as she felt the fresh air, and breeze and treasured the passing scenery with her eyes closed one last time. Libra has crossed the rainbow now, and her spirit is far away from any ᴘᴀɪɴ or sᴜꜰꜰᴇʀ.

“She was about 15 years old and I’ve had her since I was a kid,’ read the post. She started getting very sɪᴄᴋ. Libra was ready to go, so we helped her. She was so peaceful and happy and the picture makes me feel better about not having her around anymore.”

The photo, which has about 300,000 views on Imgur so far, was then posted on Reddit, where several other dog owners offered condolences and reminisced about their own departed dogs.
