Dog Breaks Out Of Day Care And Walks Himself Home While Owners Are 1000 Miles Away
They were away on vacation when they were alerted that someone was at their front door. Curious, they checked to see who it was and got the surprise of their lives.
Jeremy and Sarah Henson were on vacation in Las Vegas when their security system notified them that the doorbell on their Kansas home was ringing. Not expecting anyone, they checked the footage and saw that their dog Dexter was ringing the doorbell.
It was dark, he was alone, and was jumping up, frantically ringing the bell. He clearly wanted someone to let him inside his home. The thing was, Dexter was supposed to be safe and secure at the doggy day care his owners entrusted him to.
Dexter was supposed to be at a doggy daycare for five days but on the evening of day three, he ran away. No one knows exactly how he did it, but he would have had to get out of his kennel and then scale a six-foot fence to leave the premises.
His escape would have been just the beginning. He then would have had to make his way home all by himself. Which meant knowing exactly which ways to turn and crossing busy streets to find his way to his subdivision.
It took him ninety long minutes to get home and notify his owners that he was ready to come home. Luckily, his owners were able to talk to him over the security system and try to calm him down. They then called the doggy daycare to send someone to pick him up.
While Dexter didn’t understand that his family was far away on vacation, he did know that he was done with daycare and ready to go home. Since no one picked him up, he took it upon himself to make it happen.
Dexter is a clever dog and we’re so glad he is okay. His breakout could have ended up much worse and we’re happy that it ended like it did, even if he wasn’t happy about going back to the facilities until his parents could pick him up.
Next time the family goes on vacation, Dexter might just prefer to go along. One thing is for sure, Dexter cannot be trusted to stay in his kennel. He might just plan another jailbreak and take himself home.
