Cat’s persistent meowing leads to ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ of 83-year-old woman stuck in deep ravine

It’s always great to have a loyal pet by your side. Animals have great instincts and can jump into action to help you if you get into an emergency situation. Like one smart cat, who has been credited with sᴀᴠɪɴɢ the ʟɪꜰᴇ of his 83-year-old owner after she fell into a ravine.

Officers were searching for the 83-year-old woman after she’d gone ᴍɪssɪɴɢ near her home on Saturday, according to a Facebook post from the Bodmin Police. One of her neighbors noticed that the elderly woman’s cat, named Piran, was persistently meowing, trying to bring attention to the corner of a large maize field near the woman’s home.

It didn’t take long for Tamar Longmuir, 38, to locate her elderly neighbor once she followed Piran’s lead, she said. Since she couldn’t walk down the embankment, she had to shout downhill to see if her neighbor was alright. “Just as I was going to go off the path and start going through the crop, I heard a very faint response to my calling. I then quickly realized my neighbor was down the 70-foot ravine,” she said.

Although Longmuir was able to make her way down to assess the situation, and thankfully, learned her neighbor lady had sustained no major ɪɴᴊᴜʀɪᴇs, it’s believed the octogenarian had been stuck there for several hours. Longmuir had to climb back up the ravine to get cell phone service, but she was able to contact emergency crews who soon arrived to ᴇxᴛʀɪᴄᴀᴛᴇ the stranded senior from the ravine.

Once the rescuers arrived at the scene, they saw the octogenarian had ꜰᴀʟʟᴇɴ ᴅᴏᴡɴ a deep ravine with incredibly difficult access and uneven terrain. After a concerted two-hour effort by almost 25 emergency personnel from the police, fire department, and air and water ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ services, the woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital for ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ. According to a statement by Bodmin Police, the woman is now in stable condition.

In a post, Bodmin Police said “Piran the cat sᴀᴠᴇᴅ the day!”

“We’ve also managed to obtain a photo of the Hero himself,” the department added, sharing a photo of the black cat.
